Wanted: Sioux Falls School Board members

It’s probably too early to panic, but for the moment we don’t have enough candidates to hold an election for Sioux Falls School Board.

Two of the five seats are up for grabs April 10.

Candidates were allowed to begin circulating nominating petitions on Jan. 27. Kate Parker grabbed her petition that day, but she’s the only one so far.

(UPDATE: As of Feb. 13, a total of six had picked up petitions, although none have turned them in. Like I said, too early to panic.)

Darin Daby is leaving the state, so he won’t be running for re-election.

Maybe you should run. Yeah, you. Why not? They’ll pay you $75 per meeting, which usually last only an hour.

You can even get $75 for every day you talk to a TV reporter! (proof below)

The petitions are due Feb. 24, so hustle on down to the Instructional Planning Center and pick one up.

If no one else files, you’re in! You won’t even have to vote for yourself.

And if someone else does file, let’s face it, it’s not that hard to win. Doug Morrison won his current seat in a landslide with only 2,634 votes.

OK, it’s probably going to take more than that this year. The city and school board are holding a joint election, so turnout should be about six times as high.
